The answer is - Hackathon is sprint type event for developers and computer science students , in which developers team up and create real world software or hardware hack.
Duration-The time duration of a hackathon is basically 24 or 36 hours. And the developers are provided place for staying , free food and sleeping bags in some cases.
At the end of hackathons the teams have to demo their hacks to the judges and sponsors.
